THE CODE OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

teachers and students of the Esiksky Vocational Technical College


The Esiksky Vocational Technical College (hereinafter referred to as the College), striving to ensure the high quality of educational programs, guarantees compliance with the principle of academic integrity. High-quality educational programs are achievable only in the context of a culture of academic integrity shared by all members of the College's academic community. Violations of academic standards harm the credibility and reputation of the College as an educational institution that adheres to high standards of teaching and research.

1. The Code of Academic Integrity for Students, students and employees of the Esiksky Vocational Technical College (hereinafter referred to as the EPTK, the Code), was developed on September 11, 2013 No. 369 in accordance with the standard rules for the activities of types of organizations of technical and vocational, post-secondary education, the NDK development strategy, the NDK Charter, it establishes the principles of academic integrity in the educational process. the process, the rights and obligations of members of the college association, determines the types of violations of academic integrity and the procedure for taking action, if any.

2. The purpose of this Code is to form an understanding of the principles of academic integrity in the educational process among college students, students and staff. Academic integrity is one of the core values in the EPTK educational process.

3. The following basic concepts are used in the Code:

1) Academic integrity – a set of values, principles and rules that develop a state of personal honesty in the implementation of learning goals and objectives, as well as in evaluating their results. This is a decent academic behavior of participants in the educational process when performing their professional duties, passing exams, tests, essays, research, presentations and other educational activities.;

2) The work being evaluated:

  • - work or assignment performed by a student during his current assessment to determine academic achievements over a certain period of study (oral survey, written work, essay, laboratory work, practical work, independent work, research work, project, etc.);
  • - the work performed by students during the final assessment to determine the student's professional competence and the level of academic achievement in the semester (Control, written work, tests, credits, research, project, etc.);

3) plagiarism - partial or complete provision of materials from various sources without providing proof of authorship or specifying the source;

4) deception - deliberate and purposeful introduction of participants in the educational process and other interested parties to the objectivity and reliability of the data used, as well as compliance with relevant principles and principles of academic integrity;

5) distortion of estimates, work data - any form of unauthorized distortion of the data of scientific and theoretical research, the use of statistical data and reference materials;

4. Supervisors of administrative and academic groups are required to familiarize students, staff, and students with the provisions of this Code of Academic Integrity.

5. The provisions of the Code are binding on all members of the professional community of the Esiksk Vocational College - the administration, the IPR, employees, stakeholders, students and their legal representatives.

Basic principles of academic integrity:

1) ensuring academic integrity as the main institutional value that forms honesty and mutual respect in academic work;

2) the establishment of fair and objective rules of academic integrity aimed at the formation of high ethical values;

3) ensuring a systematic and continuous learning trajectory of the student by determining the exact mechanism and procedure for recalculating student credits based on verified transcripts from other educational organizations;

4) respect for the teacher as a teacher who contributes to the formation of academic culture

5) encouraging and stimulating participants in the educational process to promote and protect academic integrity;

6) the teacher's definition of a specific discipline policy and the requirements expected from the student;

7) teacher's definition of the policy of specific parameters for evaluating students' academic achievements;

8) taking measures for violating the principles of academic integrity in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

9) creating an academic environment that provides educational, social and psychological support for students and helps to prevent the manifestation of academic selflessness.

1. Students have the right to:

  • - become a full member of the academic community;
  • - have full access to the educational, information and technological resources provided by the EPTK;
  • - to receive educational services based on the principles of academic honesty, openness and support;
  • - protect personal academic space;
  • - to get acquainted with the text of this Code and explain its provisions;
  • - to take an active part in solving the tasks of the educational process based on personal initiative, the rules of a student-oriented approach to learning and academic freedom;
  • - freedom of expression of one's position in the learning process;
  • -to use academic integrity as a basic platform for the development of professional competencies, as well as intellectual and creative potential.

Student responsibilities

Students to comply with the principles of academic integrity:

  • - respect and comply with the basic principles regarding the use of intellectual property rights;
  • - accept generally accepted moral norms and ethical standards, as well as strictly observe them, follow the rules specified in the organization of all types of educational work;
  • - take into account that the results of any type of academic activity are personality-oriented;
  • - be guided in the educational process by the provisions of current legislation, rules of corporate and academic culture;
  • - to prevent the presentation of research results to third parties for their use for non-normative purposes;
  • - have a clear understanding of responsibility for violating the rules of academic integrity.

Responsibilities of engineers, teachers and staff of the college:

  • - promoting the implementation of the principles of academic integrity in their work experience;
  • - prevention of cases of violations of academic integrity, assistance in eliminating their causes and conditions;
  • - creating conditions for intellectual and moral education based on ethical norms and recognized advanced standards;
  • - study of the content of the norms of the current national legislation and international standards on copyright protection;
  • - carrying out information work to explain the policy of academic integrity in the student community, the environment of social partners and the parent community;
  • - show "zero tolerance" for any violations of academic integrity;
  • - participation in events aimed at clarifying the main provisions of responsibility for violating the rules of academic integrity.

  • - ensuring the work of the IPR and the staff of the college to explain this Code to students on the basis of the necessary reference, information and methodological resources;
  • - coordinate efforts to take measures provided for in this Code in case students and other participants in the educational process violate the principles of academic integrity;
  • - control and monitoring of the implementation of the basic rules of academic integrity by the engineering and teaching staff, social partners, stakeholders and students;
  • - creation of appropriate conditions for the promotion of legal knowledge, the foundations of business and corporate culture as the basic foundations for the development of academic integrity and integrity;
  • - ensuring the implementation of the objectives of the strategic development of the Esiksky Vocational College based on the policy of academic integrity;
  • -to promote the introduction of advanced standards of academic integrity into the educational process, as well as effective ways to implement them.

This Code provides for the following types of violations of academic integrity by students, teachers, and college staff:

1) plagiarism: - transfer, partial or full ownership of materials from other sources without confirmation of authorship or indication of the source;

Plagiarism can manifest itself in various forms:

  • - intentional and/or unintentional partial or complete transfer of materials from other sources without attribution or source;
  • - quoting a source without using appropriate punctuation marks (quotation marks) and/or specifying the source;
  • - rewrite the source without specifying the author and other data;
  • - the use of relevant ideas, suggestions, conclusions or arguments without reference to the author;
  • - providing coursework with errors from various sources;
  • - submit a coursework completed as an assignment for another course.

2) collusion:

  • - performing any evaluated work for another student;
  • - the conclusion of incorrect agreements with other participants in the educational process, leading to a violation of the principles of academic integrity.

3) deception:

  • - translation from the evaluated works of other students;
  • - re-submission, submission of already evaluated works;
  • - to give false excuses in case of non-fulfillment of the submission, late completion of the evaluated work;
  • - performance by two or more students of assessed work that is not considered group work;
  • - providing conscious assistance to other students: the possibility of copying the text of the evaluated work, unauthorized use of auxiliary sources of information;
  • - attribution of the authorship of other people's works that are appreciated and appreciated;
  • - deliberate distortion of the content of the information sources used;
  • - deliberate misleading of participants in the educational process regarding the objectivity and reliability of the data used, compliance with the rules of correct borrowing, and an individual approach to the presented research results.

4) Misrepresentation of the estimated operational data:

  • - false assessment, the results of the assessment of responses to the task;
  • - data distortion (additional recording, cleaning, correction), as well as the use of intelligent falsification technologies in scientific and theoretical research, the use of statistical data and reference materials;
  • - unjustified overestimation of written control papers, the results of current control, intermediate and final attestation;
  • - intentional distortion or damage to the evaluated works of other students.

5) the acquisition and use of responses to evaluated papers in violation of the requirements of academic integrity:

  • - sending answers to other students when doing the work being evaluated;
  • - preliminary receipt of a partial or complete exam or auxiliary material from other participants in the educational process before conducting the evaluated work (test assignments with answers, exam papers and assignments, assignments for a written exam);
  • - unfair purchase of evaluated works for presentation as the results of self-study (term papers, etc.);
  • - receive illegal remuneration and (or) other benefits for the illegal turnover of scientific research and other independent work.

6) illegal use of technical devices for collecting, processing, systematizing and transmitting information or information sources:

  • - the use of information and technical devices on electronic, digital, and paper media when performing control work, testing, and passing intermediate and final attestation;
  • - receiving relevant response lines for the evaluated work, including uploading via e-mail, computer, etc.;
  • - unauthorized extraction from the office and (or) copying of the work materials of the IPR and college staff from computers and other devices.

  • - participants in the educational process should know that they are morally and legally responsible for violating the principles of academic integrity in full.;
  • - plagiarism and illegal trafficking of term papers are considered as going beyond the principles of academic integrity and are perceived as a serious violation against the academic community of the college and lead to appropriate legal measures;
  • - every case of violation of the rules of academic integrity on the part of participants in the educational process is subject to registration, analysis, legal and disciplinary qualifications.;
  • - the adoption of certain measures of influence, their content, as well as the period of validity are directly related to the nature of violations of the rules of academic integrity, the effectiveness of solving the tasks of their educational process, as well as the business reputation of the academic community of the university and College.

This list of types of violations of academic integrity is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.

1. Violations of academic integrity may be identified.:

  • - during the current assessment;
  • - during the final assessment;
  • - when doing coursework, research projects, etc.;
  • - when passing the intermediate control;
  • - when writing essays, scientific articles, participating in debates, lectures, round tables, scientific conferences.

2. In case of detection of plagiarism, collusion, deception, as well as other forms of violation of the rules of academic integrity during the current or final assessment of students' academic achievements:

  • - the teacher draws up an act of violation of the rules in accordance with the annex to this Code, conducts an appropriate conversation with students in the presence of the supervisor. An act of violation of the rules and principles of academic integrity with appropriate supporting materials and copies of students' papers are sent to the educational department of the college for disciplinary action.

In case of systematic (three or more times) violation of the principles of academic integrity, the teacher draws up an act of violation of the relevant rules in accordance with the established form (Appendix 1). The act on violation of the rules of academic integrity, together with the attached supporting materials and copies of the students' work, are sent to the educational department for the transfer of these documents to the disciplinary commission in order to consider the application of disciplinary measures to students who have committed a corresponding violation.

Appropriate disciplinary measures are applied to students who violate the rules of academic integrity.:

  • - remark;
  • - The reprimand;
  • - reducing job evaluation to a minimum;
  • - re-doing written work;
  • - leave on a paid basis for the summer semester;
  • - college dropout.

The IPR and employees who violate the rules of academic integrity are subject to appropriate disciplinary penalties and disciplinary measures.:

  • - The reprimand;
  • - severe reprimand;
  • - termination of the employment contract;
  • - slowing down career growth;
  • - limitation of moral and material incentives.

3. In case of detection of violations of a mercenary nature, deception, falsification of data, illegal trafficking of coursework, creative works when students perform evaluated works, the teacher, the college employee are subject to disciplinary action in accordance with labor legislation and the Code of Academic Integrity.

Cases of non-compliance with academic integrity standards are reviewed by the disciplinary Commission of the Esiksk Vocational College, as well as the Council on Ethics, Academic Integrity and Anti-Corruption. The Disciplinary Commission, the Council on Ethics, Academic Integrity and Anti-Corruption are independent advisory bodies responsible for protecting the rights of participants in the educational process and ensuring a moral and ethical assessment of the results of educational and professional activities of students, employees of the Esiksk Vocational College and IPK. The organization of the work of the disciplinary commission and the said Council is regulated by the approved rules.

This regulation shall enter into force from the date of its approval and shall remain in force until additions and amendments are made.

The rules of behavior of students in the exam conducted by computer testing

1. Students are allowed to take the computer-based examination only if they have an identity document.

2. During the exam, the use of mobile phones, headphones, flash drives and other means of information transmission is prohibited. When these items are found, an act of seizure is drawn up, and the student is removed from the exam. Retake of this exam is carried out for a fee in the summer semester.

3. The use of the crib is prohibited. If the crib is found, an act of withdrawal is drawn up, and the student is removed from the exam. Retake is carried out for a fee in the summer semester.

4. Students who do not meet aesthetic requirements (shorts, T-shirts, slates, jackets, baseball caps, caps, etc.) are not allowed to take the exam.

5. It is not allowed to enter the computer classroom with sports bags, backpacks, bags, outerwear, books, laptops, reference books, dictionaries, etc.

6. During the exam, it is forbidden to chew gum, eat, drink, talk, talk, change places, walk around an unnecessary classroom, or leave the classroom. In case of violation of this requirement, an act is drawn up, and the student is removed from the exam. Retake of this exam is carried out for a fee in the summer semester.

7. In case of unethical behavior of a student (quarrels, rudeness, failure to respond to comments, disobedience to the requirements of the rules of conduct, etc.), an appropriate act is drawn up, and a complaint against administrative punishment is written to the director.

8. When organizing the educational process using remote technologies and taking final control, students are required to provide a workplace with access to Internet resources. When conducting an online lesson in the distance learning format, students are required to observe speech etiquette, dress code, look neat and avoid the presence of unauthorized persons unrelated to the learning process.

9. When organizing the admission of final control using remote technologies, exams in all forms of education are conducted mainly in the form of computer testing in AIS "Paragraph "Education", as well as in the form of an oral exam. During the oral exam, the system of verification (proctoring) of the identity and confirmation of the results of online exams and testing is maintained.

10. The student has the right to appeal no later than the next day for the following technical reasons:

  • - lack of a correct answer;
  • - lack of answers;
  • - having two equally correct answers;
  • - lack of a task;
  • - unreadability of the assignment.
